The history of Pheonex

Pheonex is a dynamic company specializing in energetic materials for mining, quarrying, and civil blasting operations

Founded in 2017, Pheonex combines the expertise of our shareholders and industry-leading SME consultants to create superior blasting solutions. In just 5 years, we have developed and commercialized two unique products that significantly enhance the pre-splitting of hard rock walls and post-splitting of underground development drives.

We are dedicated to researching, field testing, and developing advanced technologies to produce the safest and most cost-effective explosive products. Our innovative chemistry and application methods ensure rockfall-free walls and optimised development drives.

VISION

Energetic chemistry to create a rock fall free surface in underground and surface mining.

MISSION

At Pheonex, we are committed to researching, field testing, and developing cutting-edge energetic materials for mining, quarrying, and civil blasting operations. Our goal is to deliver the safest and most-cost effective explosive products through innovative chemistry and application methods, ensuring rockfall-fee walls and development drives.

Our core values

Safety

We care deeply about safety in our operations and products, safeguarding every individual along the way

Accountability

We take ownership of our actions and deliver on our commitments

Customisation

We understand the unique needs or our clients and customise our solutions to exceed their expectations

Research and Development

Dedicated to researching and developing advanced technologies

Pheonex is Australia’s leader in the development, testing, and introduction of new materials to market.

In collaboration with a toll manufacturing company, we have field-tested and developed five new product lines. Two of these have been successfully commercialised and released, two are awaiting field tests, and the fifth is undergoing lab tests to ensure safety before field testing.

We work closely with clients to identify how product modifications can enhance current results. Our state-of-the-art field-testing facility measures detonation characteristics in open-air firings, with specialised sensors placed within 1.5 metres of the explosion to measure pressure and directly measure temperature.

Partner with Pheonex

Pheonex is continuously seeking clients for the development of new products based on annual quantities and is eager to partner with mines and quarries for field validation of our products. We ensure that all prototype testing is conducted at our firing ranges before brining products to our clients.

Product Testing

Ensuring the highest standards of safety and performance by employing a variety of testing methods

To ensure the highest standards of safety and performance, we employ a variety of testing methods depending on the specific requirements. The Velocity of Detonation (VOD) is measured using either fibre optic or coaxial cables.

Our comprehensive test apparatus include:

Temperature Measurement
– Pressure Open Air Measurement
– VOD Measurement with Coaxial Cable
– VOD Measurement Fiber Optic Cable
– Hydrophone Dynamic Pressure (Tank Testing)
– In-Hole Pressure Measurement (Carbon Resistor)
– Temperature Cycling Effects Analysis
– Plate Testing
– Series 4b Burn Tests

Pheonex plant

Industry best practice large manufacturing facility

The Pheonex manufacturing plant manufactures a MMAN watergel by mixing blasting agents and chemicals to create a slurry. The sensitised slurry is pumped into a cartridge machine which creates a continuous string of cartridges that is 10 gram detonating cord traced, which is sold as a continuous packaged presplit explosives for use in surface and underground perimeter blasting.

Other facilities:

  • 50 T Ammonium Nitrate Store (DEMIRS Licence);
  • 100 T High Explosives Store (DEMIRS Licence);
  • 60,000 L MMAN store (DEMIRS Licence);
  • 20 T Sodium Nitrate store (DEMIRS Licence);
  • 10 T Watergel Manufacturing licence (DEMIRS Licence);
  • 12 T Explosive storage in Kalgoorlie (Via business partner supplier).
